GTA V Online has been out for over a decade, but Rockstar keeps the economy alive with bonus weeks, new content drops, and regular balancing. In 2026 — with GTA VI launching in November — the meta is well-established. The methods below are proven, repeatable, and ranked by what actually pays the most per hour.

Whether you're building your GTA V bankroll before the switch or just want to maximise every session, this is the definitive guide. No glitches, no exploits — just the best legitimate methods, explained properly.

The Golden Rule

The highest earners in GTA V don't grind one method — they stack passive income on top of active grinding. Start your Nightclub and Bunker before you do anything else, then run heists while they earn in the background.

All Methods Ranked — At a Glance

Here's every major earning method ranked by real hourly income. Figures assume competent execution — beginners will earn slightly less until they learn the optimal routes.

Method #1 — Cayo Perico Heist

#1
Cayo Perico Heist Best solo money-maker in the game · Repeatable every 48 minutes
$1.5M+Per hour
~48 minCycle Time
$1.1–1.5MPayout Range
SoloPlayers
MediumDifficulty

Cayo Perico is the undisputed #1 money method in GTA V Online and has been since it launched in 2020. It pays up to $1.5M per run, takes around 48 minutes including the setup, and — crucially — can be completed entirely solo. No crew dependency, no cut splitting.

The payout varies heavily based on the primary target. The Pink Diamond ($1.43M) and Panther Statue ($1.9M during bonus weeks) are the best targets. If you get Tequila or Cash as your primary, it's still worth running — just not as fast a path to $1M.

⚡ Pro Tips
  • Always scope out first — identify your primary target and the drainage tunnel entry point before the finale.
  • Solo + drainage tunnel is the fastest route. In and out in under 8 minutes with practice.
  • Don't buy supplies — the prep missions are quick and save you $25K per scope run.
  • Hard mode gives 10% bonus payout. Always select it.
  • 48-minute cooldown starts after the finale, not the prep. Plan your session around 2–3 back-to-back runs.

Method #2 — Casino Heist (Silent & Sneaky)

#2
Diamond Casino Heist Best crew payout · Silent & Sneaky approach · Up to $2.1M per run
$1.2MPer hour
~25 minFinale Time
Up to $2.1MMax Payout
2–4Players
MediumDifficulty

The Casino Heist pays more per run than Cayo Perico but requires at least one other player and more coordination. Silent & Sneaky with the Diamonds target ($3.6M vault) is the highest-paying approach when Diamonds are available — they rotate in occasionally or appear during special events.

With a well-coordinated 2-player crew, you can clear the finale in under 25 minutes. That puts your effective hourly rate above $1.2M/hr once you account for the setup missions. The key is an experienced crew — bad teammates in the vault will cost you 10–15 minutes per run.

⚡ Pro Tips
  • Always target Diamonds when available — they appear during special events and vault them into $3.6M.
  • Gunman, Driver, Hacker — spend on the best supports (Paige Harris as hacker, Karim Denz for vehicles).
  • 2 players is the sweet spot — the cut per player is higher than with 4, and coordination is easier.
  • Loot bag efficiency — take only gold or artwork. Cash fills bags faster but pays less per unit.

Method #3 — Agency Security Contracts

#3
Agency Security Contracts Best solo grind without a heist cooldown · Payphone hits included
$800KPer hour
~20 minPer Contract
$250–400KPer Contract
SoloPlayers
EasyDifficulty

The Agency (Franklin's business from The Contract DLC) provides Security Contracts that pay $250K–$400K each with no cooldown between runs. You can chain them back-to-back for a consistent $800K/hr with efficient play.

The real hidden value is the Payphone Hits — bonus assassination missions that pay an extra $85K on top of the contract if you complete them with the bonus objective (specific kill method). These stack on top of your contract income and push your effective hourly rate significantly higher.

⚡ Pro Tips
  • Always do the Payphone Hit bonus — check the specific kill method before starting and plan around it.
  • Short Trip contract is the fastest — typically completable in under 15 minutes solo.
  • Private lobby reduces griefing risk significantly on this method.
  • Pair with Nightclub passive — while you run contracts, your Nightclub earns in the background.

Method #4 — Auto Shop Contracts

#4
Auto Shop Contracts Fast 12-minute cycles · No setup cost · Great for duos
$600KPer hour
~12 minPer Contract
$160–200KPer Contract
Solo/DuoPlayers
EasyDifficulty

The Auto Shop is one of the most beginner-friendly high-earners in the game. Each robbery contract pays $160K–$200K and takes around 12 minutes — with no setup mission required before you start. You just walk in and go.

With a reliable duo partner, you can run 4–5 contracts per hour, pushing your take to $600K+ per hour each. Solo players earn the same per contract but take slightly longer, landing around $400K/hr.

⚡ Pro Tips
  • Union Depository contract is the fastest — memorise the vault route and you can clear it in under 10 minutes.
  • Duo is optimal — one player drives, one shoots. Cuts total time per contract by 20–30%.
  • No setup cost means you can jump straight into back-to-back runs without any planning overhead.

The Passive Stack — Earn While You Sleep

The smartest players in GTA V don't choose between passive and active income — they run both simultaneously. Here's how to set up a passive income stack that earns money in the background while you run heists.

💡
How Passive Stacking Works

Nightclub and Bunker earn automatically over time. You only need to interact with them to sell stock — which takes 10–15 minutes every few hours. Run your heist in between sales and you're effectively double-dipping on your session time.

Nightclub — Best Passive Business

#5
Nightclub Passive · Earns while you do anything else
$220KPer hour passive
~1 hrTo Fill Safe
$10–50KSafe / Hour
SoloPlayers
$1.08M+Setup Cost

The Nightclub generates passive income from two sources: the safe (up to $50K/hr, capped at $250K) and goods warehouse stock which is produced by your technicians and sold for up to $1.7M per sell mission.

To maximise Nightclub output you need: Equipment Upgrade, Staff Upgrade, and 5 active technicians assigned to your most valuable goods (Cargo, Sporting Goods, Pharmaceutical Research). With upgrades, stock fills in roughly 20 hours and sells for $1.3–1.7M — around $220K/hr for zero active effort.

⚡ Pro Tips
  • Buy Equipment + Staff upgrades first — they're expensive but double your production speed.
  • Keep popularity above 75% by doing popularity missions when it drops. Low popularity halves safe income.
  • Assign technicians to Cargo and Pharmaceutical Research — these produce the most valuable stock per hour.
  • Sell in a solo public lobby or invite-only session to avoid griefers destroying your sell vehicles.
Passive Solo

Bunker — Best Active Business

#6
Bunker Best active business · Steal supplies for free to maximise margins
$160KPer hour
~2.5 hrsFull Stock Time
$630KFull Sell Value
SoloPlayers
$1.16M+Setup Cost

The Bunker pays $160K/hr when you steal your own supplies — dropping to around $80K/hr if you buy them. Always steal. The supply steal missions take 10–15 minutes and save you $75K each cycle, which compounds significantly over a long session.

With Equipment + Staff upgrades, a full Bunker fills in about 2.5 hours and sells for $630K (solo) or up to $1.05M in a large public lobby. Sell in a solo session when stock is under $350K to get a single delivery vehicle — much safer than a multi-vehicle sale.

⚡ Pro Tips
  • Never buy supplies — steal missions are quick and the savings are massive over time.
  • Sell below $350K stock for a solo vehicle. Above that, you risk getting 2+ sell vehicles which can be destroyed.
  • Pair Bunker with Cayo Perico runs — do a heist while supplies fill, sell stock between heist prep missions.
Passive Solo

The Optimal Setup — How To Hit $1M in Under an Hour

Now you know the methods — here's how to combine them into a session that realistically earns $1M+ in 60 minutes.

🏆
The $1M/hr Setup

Prerequisites: Bunker + Nightclub (both with upgrades), Agency purchased, Cayo Perico scope done.

1. Start session → trigger Bunker resupply mission (10 min)
2. While waiting for supplies, run an Agency Security Contract (20 min, $300K+)
3. Launch Cayo Perico finale → drainage tunnel → in and out (15–20 min, $1.1M+)
4. Check Nightclub safe (collect $50–100K), queue next resupply
5. Total session: ~55 minutes → $1.4M+

The key insight is that Nightclub and Bunker run in the background — every minute you spend on a heist or contract, those businesses are also earning. By the time you've finished two Cayo runs, your Nightclub may have accumulated $200K+ in stock and your Bunker is ready to sell.

If You're Starting From Zero

No Nightclub, no Bunker, no Agency? Here's the fastest path from broke to $1M with zero business investment:

Step 1 — Contact Missions. Do Gerald's contact missions in your first session. They're quick, pay $20–40K each, and get you to rank 15 fast. Aim for $100K before you do anything else.

Step 2 — Fleeca Job. Find a partner and run the Fleeca Job tutorial heist. It takes about 20 minutes and pays $57.5K (your cut). More importantly it unlocks the full heist series.

Step 3 — Pacific Standard Heist. With a crew of four, the Pacific Standard finale pays up to $500K (your cut on a high percentage take). One good run and you're halfway to your first million.

Step 4 — Buy the Kosatka. It costs $2.2M but it's the gateway to Cayo Perico — the best money-maker in the game. Once you have it, Cayo Perico will pay for itself in two runs. This is your true first major goal.

Don't Buy These First

Avoid spending on MC Businesses, CEO offices, or Biker Clubhouses until you have the Nightclub and Kosatka. These older businesses have the worst ROI in 2026 and will slow your progress significantly.

What's Coming in GTA VI

All of this knowledge transfers directly to GTA VI. Rockstar has already confirmed heists, businesses, and online play at launch — and the economy will almost certainly follow the same structure: one flagship repeatable heist at the top, passive businesses in the background, and contracts to fill time in between.

The players who understand GTA V's economy will hit the ground running in GTA VI. That's exactly why we're building tools and guides now — so you're not learning from scratch on November 19.
